it seems [?] that if the first command given to a fresh xterm window is
100% via mouse cut and paste, it can't be recalled by ^P.  2nd one too.

hmmm, I see your bug report script doesnt do
set -o
or whatever, to get more info about the user's circumstances.

plus the script should mention the repoprt ends up on netnews, not
just e-mail... "see news:gnu.bash bug" too.
