Core on the ~username expansion

This is what I did and what happened. I was logged in as
root and I was going to change directory to one of the users
on my box. So I typed cd ~lu and then hit tab to expand that
users name like I have always done in the past. And below is 
the output I recieved.

root@nova:~ % cd ~lufree: called with unallocated block argument
last command: ls
Stopping myself...Abort
jason@nova:~ %
