Displaying characters with accents (fwd) |

Hi,
I'm a spansih Linux user, but I mostly prefer to have my system in
English. The only thing I want about Spanish is to be able to write and
read characters with accent.
Following some articles, I have configured my system to use a keymap with
accent (es-cp850.map.gz) and a font capable of displaying these characters
(las9w-16.psfu). In addition, I have turned on the options input-meta and
output-meta, and turned off convert-meta.
However, I cannot write these characters in the commandline, I only get
beeps. In addition, when using TAB to autocomplete a path containing an
accent, bash writes the octal code of the character. But, when I change
into this directory, bash displays it correctly in the prompt. Finally, vi
and emacs behave in the same way.
Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.

Well, farewell, my hobbits! You should come safe to your own
homes now, and I shall not be kept awake for fear of your

meet at times; but I fear that we shall not all be gathered
together ever again.
