The LINES and COLUMNS variables are an *override* to applications. It
is not an application's primary method of getting the size of the
screen. Therefore they should not be exported by default. These
should only be exported when the user wants to force a specific
behavior. (e.g. COLUMNS=200 dpkg -l)
