Oh.  Um...  :-} ok!

If I have set the option, forgive me, but I'd sure rather
see that option *only* default to "on" _when_ Posix is set.
(I've never experienced such ickiness from a posix option before).

Turning off the `checkhash' option, which exists solely to implement the
Posix requirements, will result in hashing working the way you want.
