Description:
        When a compound command other than a subshell group is redirected
        and the redirection fails the exit status is not modfied. That
        only happens when the command is the first one in a sequential
        list.

Repeat-By:
        $ touch w; chmod -w w
        $ { :; } > w; echo $?
        -bash: w: Permission denied

        $ (exit 100)
        $ { :; } > w; echo $?
        -bash: w: Permission denied
        100
        $ :; { :; } > w; echo $?
