I can confirm this up through 11.11:
imadev:~$ uname -a
HP-UX imadev B.10.20 A 9000/785 2008897791 two-user license
imadev:~$ type getent
bash-4.3: type: getent: not found
# uname -a
HP-UX megview1 B.11.11 U 9000/785 532302039 unlimited-user license
# type getent
getent not found.

Hah.
Anyway, Linda specifically asked about Linux systems that had it,
which is why I was focusing mostly on those.
