even if you remove the first and last ':
1) that is 3 PEs as the solution i described (${a//\\/\\\\}
${a//\`/\\\`} ${a//$/\\$} vs ${a@Q} ${a#\'} ${a%\'} )
2) it doesn't actually accomplish anything:
~ --${@Q}-> '~' --${#\'}-> ~' --${%\'}-> ~
