Hi carboni,
I'm running a Suse sles 8 SP3 with gcc 3.2.2 and binutils 2.12.90.15.
Try using a more recent version of binutils and/or gcc. Version 2.15 of binutils should be the one to try, and if that does not fix the problem, then try the current sources in the binutils CVS repository.
