[Bug ld/5744] New: Misleading linker messages - Error: Overflow detected in relocation value

"Error: Overflow detected in relocation value; Relocation value should be 
between 255 and -256 whereas it 268" However this is probably because of 
undefined symbol. This problem was reported earlier ,

Is there a patch or a workaround.
