i just tested using latest GNUARM distribution from GNUARM.org.
no, the problem has not been fixed in binutils 2.18.

this is the distribution i used for testing:

binutils-2.18, gcc-4.2.2-c-c++, newlib-1.15.0 (reentrant), insight-6.7.1,
setup.exe [102MB]
