I am building I configured binutils-2.17 using the procedures set down
in LFS.6.3.

I created a separate build directory and configured from there.
../binutils-2.17/configure  --prefix=/usr --enable-shared

Make was uneventful.

make check failed. The relevant lines are

Compiler is
Target: alphaev6-unknown-linux-gnu
Configured
with: ../gcc-4.1.2/configure --prefix=/tools --with-local-prefix=/tools
--enable-clocale=gnu --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix
--enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-languages=c,c++ --disable-libstdcxx-pch
Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.1.2

I suspect, from previous experiences, that the problem is with new
relocation mechanisms that the alpha utilities haven't caught up with.
Point me in the right direction and I will be happy to assist with
solving these problems, testing fixes and so forth.

Keith Harwood.
