Thank you . I will investigate. I compiled 2.19 using the
--disable-werror to get past this temporarily. There were also grep
warnings about the q switch later on in the build. I am using bash. I
will be taking the rest of the year off. It will likely be resolved in
2010.

certainly cross-compile a powerpc-wrs-vxworks binutils-2.20.  I suspect
your shell may not like the shell commands near the end of vxworks.em.
Building under bash will likely avoid the problem, but if you can,
please investigate why your eelf32ppcvxworks.c lacks a reference to
vxworks_before_parse in ld_elf32ppcvxworks_emulation
