the bug happens with vanilla unpatched binutils 2.24, as well as with the
codesourcery toolchain, so it's definitely not due to custom codesourcery
patches

i just tested with a musl-cross arm-eabihf toolchain, the bug exists there as
well.
so it's interesting that it doesnt happen with the linaro hardfloat toolchain.
