  OK - I have checked the patch in.

  With regard to your questions.  1) Leaving the temporary files behind is not
an intended feature, it is a bug.  I see about creating a patch to fix it.

  2. Adding handling for Windows special files seems a bit over the top.  Are
there any real world sceanarios where this would be a real problem ?
