As opposed to --enable-compressed-debug-sections=all ?  Hmm, yes I guess 
that it should.  Although it will make parsing this option trickier.

Well I have not even implemented the configure option for gold yet, but 
I would have to say no.  We are explicitly stating which tools will 
compress debug sections by default on the configure command line and we 
are treating ld as separate from gold.
