Hi Mike,

  OK, so just to recap, the build works if:

   * binutils 2.34 is used or
   * LTO is not enabled or
   * The build is for 64-bit x86_64

  So much for guesswork then.  Please can you provide a test
  case that reproduces the problem (and does not involve
  building on a Windows machine) ?  Ideally a small one,
  but if you have to a compressed tarball/zipfile of the 
  libraries and object files should also work.
