cygwin CVS problem - files remain in UNIX format when working in Windows

I don't know if the problem I'm having is considered a
feature or a bug. I'll report it and let you decide.

I'm using CVS on a Win2K PC, connecting to a CVS
repository on a UNIX/SunSolaris box. The code our team
writes must be cross platform compatible. Some files
in the repository are very specific to Windows such as
the Visual C++ workspace/project (make) files. The
problem I have is the that the version of CVS
distributed with the Cygwin 1.3.1 pulls over all the
files in a "Unix" format - (NL) instead of (CRNL).
Visual C++ does not recognize the project(.dsp) files
as valid and we cannot compile any code. NTEmacs
(v20.7.1) reports the (.dsp) files (and all files
pulled over by CVS) as being in "Unix" format. Indeed
Notepad confirms this by showing the file as one
continuous long line - all the carriage returns (CR)
are missing.

My work around to the problem was to download the
Win32 version of CVS 1.11 from http://www.cvshome.org.
That version of CVS maintains the (CRNL) for the files
and Visual C++ is able to understand and compile the
project files. Note that although the cvshome.org
version of CVS also reports v1.11, it is a (client)
only version, whereas the Cygwin reports it is a
(client/server) version and is more than 2 times
larger than the cvshome.org version.

Thanks for all the great GNU products. The world is a
better/bearable place because of them.
