The sensible alternative is to use the client/server protocol instead of
trying to parse the output from the commands. Unfortunately, this
particular case (cvs history) still uses generic message output rather
than tagged text, so you'd still have the same problem. But I'd say a
better approach to the problem would be to change the client/server code
to use tagged text in this case rather than adding an alternative output
format.
