Anyone have an opinion on this issue?

It's about reworking the cvs status format to be more easily parsable by
scripts while keeping the output human readable and without resorting to
anything so cumbersome as XML. Backwards compatibly, of course, but
I was wondering if anyone knew what had been done about odd characters
with other applications in similar situations?

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither
inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for
the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage
than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater
confidence than an armed man.
- Thomas Jefferson, quoting Cesare Beccaria
