I have never used sockets before, I don't know how much
infrastructure is involved in setting it up.

Also, I don't have the ability to even test compile it, unless
I use work's machine.  I don't like using work's machine for
personal stuff.

In fact, I don't even know how to run a client and server on
the same machine.  I looked for a "cvs server" command, but
didn't see one.

At least IBM now have a reproducible problem, and if they
link with a debug version of the libraries, will be able to
find the line in fstat which is returning -1 in about 30 minutes.
