Aha!  Thanks, Mark.  Between your message and looking back at sanity.sh,
I get it now.  parseroot had to run before checkout_repository to
trigger the problem.  I thought, for some unknown reason, that
checkout_repository-1 was a misnamed parseroot test.  Sorry about that.

Thanks again for the fix too!

With any luck, 1.12.2 will be out before the end of the day.
