The lines you would have to update start about line #3283 of
src/client.c.  The only thing CVS does is try to login to a standard
forward proxy which accepts the "CONNECT" command.  You must have some
other type of proxy at proxy.chapmantripp.co.nz:8080.  You will
probably need to make client.c detect the proxy type somehow or try
whatever command it is your proxy needs after the CONNECT fails.

Your proxy isn't restricting external port numbers you are allowed to
access, is it?
