New GNULIB glob module?

Subject: New GNULIB glob module?

Hi all,

I needed a portable version of glob for CVS, so I imported the glob
module from glibc 2.3.5 into a GNULIB format. Mostly I kept the glibc
version intact, though I managed to simplify some portability cruft
immensely by replacing huge chunks of code with #includes of GNULIB
modules. There's still a section that messes with DOS paths left that
might be able to be replaced with some of the macros from dos.m4, but I
was having trouble deciphering it and left it alone for now.

I also had to fix one bug in the directory detection code. This glob
and my system glob were behaving slightly differently in response to
GLOB_ONLYDIR, I'm fairly certain because of a difference in the behavior
when the d_type member of struct dirent was and wasn't found. I took
the opportunity to tune the GLOB_MARK code slightly for efficiency as well.

Anyhow, I submit it now for consideration as a GNULIB module. I've
attached two diffs. glob.diff is intended to be applied to a checkout
of GNULIB and should create 4 files: lib/glob_.h, lib/glob.c,
m4/glob.m4, & modules/glob; and update config/srclist.txt. I wasn't
sure what else needed updating for a new module. I also wasn't sure
what to put in config/srclist.txt about the license - the header comment
in the files from glibc says LGPL, but srclist.txt has GPL listed for
all the other glibc modules.

The second file, glob-glibc2gnulib.diff, contains a diff from the glob.c
in glibc to my new version being submitted for GNULIB and a diff from
the glob.h from glibc to the glob_.h I am submitting. This is so that
someone with more experience at this than myself may review my exact
modifications to those files if they wish.

CVS, with this module installed, now passes its full test suite using
both this module and the glob from glibc 2.3.2 which came installed with
my Linux distribution. CVS is making fairly constant use of the new
module, but probably isn't stressing its pattern capabilities, though
that should hardly be relevant since glob depends on the fnmatch module
for pattern matching and that is stressed elsewhere.

If it speeds adoption, you can put me down as maintainer for this module.

Regards,

Derek
