Thanks for submitting this patch, PJP. I've included bug-cvs in this
reply, as it is a more appropriate forum for patches; please trim
info-cvs from any future replies.

Would you be able to write some sanity tests to go into sanity.sh, and
patches for the ChangeLog and NEWS files as well? This will increase
your chances of this being accepted into the source distribution.
