cvs [checkout aborted]: Can't parse date/time: >2007-08-22

Any ideas why would cvs throw the error on execution of the following command

cvs -d D:\CVS\<customer_name> checkout -P -t -D ">22 Aug 2007" -d
<customer_name> -- <customer_name>
