POCKET PC TIPS
The strange case of when Outlook notes won't synchronize to a Pocket PC
By David Gewirtz

My buddy Steve was telling me about a problem he solved the other day, and I thought this one needed to be documented. Jason, a mutual friend, had just bought his first Pocket PC. By judicious use of conduits and Outlook, he'd managed to transfer everything over from his Palm Desktop to Outlook, and from Outlook down to his Pocket PC.

Except for notes. For some reason, the Outlook notes would not, no way, no how, transfer to the Pocket PC. Everything else was able to sync with perfection. It was just the notes that wouldn't transfer.

After doing some research, Steve found this tech note: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q305/5/44.ASP.

It turns out that when notes (and to be clear here, we're talking about the little pop-up guys, not the Lotus Notes product) don't synchronize, it's often a symptom of a corrupted .PST file.

The tech note goes into most of the details you'll need. There are two things to keep in mind. You're better off using Import to move the data from the old PST to the new PST that the tech note suggests. That's because, if you just drag and drop items, you may also be moving the corruption from the old PST to the new PST along with the data. Using import will avoid that.

Also, don't forget that you're likely to need to select your new PST file from the Outlook Accounts menu or from the Mail control panel and then disable the old one.
