GhostScript, ImageMagick, and .EPS files

All,

I have what I hope to be a quick question.

We have ImageMagick installed and are using it to convert an image
that is uploaded into several different formats. The files we are
getting are .eps files.

ImageMagick apparently uses GhostScript for some of the manipulation
of these files.

I can't get ImageMagick to reduce, or increase, the resolution of the
images. We looked at what ImageMagick was actually doing (calling
GohstScript) and tried to do it ourselves from the command line.

It didn't do anything. It didn't error out, but it didn't modify the
image.

We're trying to re-compile ghostscript now, but we're not terribly
confident.

Any Ideas are welcome and much appreciated.
