GS 6.51 Solaris compilation problem

I've been trying to build ghostscript 6.51 on Solaris 7, and the
compilation
bombs on a definition conflict ('pwrite') between the ghostscript
spprint.h file
and the system's uinstd.h file, while compiling gdevpdf.c  I've tried
both gcc and the
native cc compiler. Also tried solaris 2.6 and 8.  Played with the flags
a little bit, too.
Anyone have experience with this?

I was able to build on a linux RedHat 6.2 system without any problem.
