How do I convert Word/Excel files to PDF via ghostscript ?

Hello,

I need to convert  Word and Excel documents from the command line (ie., need
write a batch file). I've been doing a bit of research and so far gathered that
I can send these documents to some imaginary printer (ie., file) .. the 
resulting document is a PostScript file. 

Q: How then can I use 'ghostscript' to to convert it to a PDF file ?
