extended desktop problem with fujitsu laptop

I have a fujitsu laptop series S (a couple of months old); running
windows XP.
I have used the extended desktop option, i.e. used an extra monitor and
am able to work with two monitors.
However, when I reset back to a single (notebook) monitor,
gsview 4.6 still opens up in the nonexistent monitor - so I cannot see
it. So I can no longer use gsview without the extra monitor.

I have tried many different ways to get the setting back to a single
monitor. (all other applications that I have tried open up fine.)
I have called fujitsu support and spent a lot of time trying there.
But, no luck so far.
