It looks like this.

...finished

gift-generate-inverted-file: CAcIFFileSystem.cc:699: bool
CAcIFFileSystem::newGenerateInvertedFile(): Assertion `lADI.output()'
failed.

It shouldn't be related to the no-write-access -error
I mentioned earlier. But as this is gone from the CVS
version, there's no problem.

Of course. The bugs might very well be in 3.1. Redhat just seems
to have a policy to always include only the latest compiler,
no matter how beta. :(

I understand. ;)

autoconf 2.13 and automake 1.4-p5

On 3.1 they weren't unfortunately just warnings, but caused
the compilation to stop. :(

First java version to my knowledge to natively support the loading of
jpegs is java2 version 1.4, quite fresh from SUN. I don't personally
have a hunch of how much work it would be to port an applet to
a true java app, but if third party image classes must be used
(because of an older java), that sounds like more overhead.
Unfortunately, at this point, like the rest of us selfish people,
I must decline the job [standard issue: must eat => must work
=> very little energy left to spend on hobby-coding. :( Of
course that applies to most people around.], and nor do I presume
anybody else to do it either, my suggestion was just something
speculative on the lines of 'suggestions for the case if someone
really wishes to conquer the world with GIFT'. ;)
