After rebuilding gettext-0.10.39 with libiconv-1.7, "make install"
in glibc-2.2.4 abort in the "po" directory with the following error:
zh_TW.po:1581: invalid multibyte sequence
It is easy enough for me to work around by deleting the
translation, but I think it will require someone who knows about
big5 encoding in detail to fix it.
The message in question is a copyright notice, and my wild guess
is that the offending characters is intended to be some kind of Chinese
copyright symbol.
Some disclaimers:
1. I am sending this to bug-glibc as opposed to libc-alpha
or libc-hacker because that is that the glibc-2.2.4/README
now says to do. You may want to forward this message to
address@hidden, because I believe H. J. Lu
reads that list, and he is the only libc developer whom I know
who knows Chinese.
2. I am buliding glibc-2.2.4 with gcc-3.0.1 and Jakub Jelenik's
compatability patch, which I realize is unsupported.
Nevertheless, I thought it would be useful to report this
information.
3. I have checked the glibc cvs repository and verified that
no changes have been made to zh_TW.po since the 2.2.4 release.
