glibc-2.2.5 failed on RedHat 7.1 |

Greetings,
I tried to install glibc-2.2.5 on RedHat 7.1 for Intel, and now my
system is totally broken and I have to reinstall from the CD-ROMs.
I did only the procedure provided in the INSTALL text that came with the
distribution.
I first compiled everything in /usr/src/glibc-build. Great.
I then ran make check; there was a failure in something in iconvdata.
I read several reports on GNATS about benign failures there, so I went
ahead with make install.
The installs went fine for a while, but then a test program failed and
the procedure aborted.
Now the system won't boot and is totally broken.
I didn't do the installs in single-user mode; could this have been the
cause?
