Newbie is lost - Error during install

During 'make install' make dies with the following error:

"No rule to make target "../dlfcn/libdl.so.2" needed by 'sprof'
Leaving directory '/Build/glibc-2.3.1/elf'
Error 2

I compiled it with GCC 3.2.2

Help would be appreciated, my system is half broken.  Some
commands still work, but others get Segmentation Fault.  If
I understand correctly, I will need to recompile those with
the new version of GLIBC.  But as you can understand, I don't
want to compile anything with GLIBC erroring out during the
install.
