Hi,
I'm running Linux 2.4.21 and glibc 2.2.4. (I tried to upgrade to the latest
version of glibc, but stopped when it required that I upgrade my compiler.)
I travel between countries as a consultant, and find myself changing my time
zone settings quite regularly. I do this by adjusting the /etc/localtime
symlink to point to various files in /usr/share/zoneinfo/. I have found that
programs running druing the switch retain their time setting, which makes
syslog output tricky to read. Of course, when I run date, it has the correct
local time. I wrote a very simple program which looped calling localtime()
every 10 seconds, and then changed /etc/localtime. The result was that the
time didn't change respective to the time zone.
Please forgive me if this problem has already been fixed; it is hard to
upgrade compilers when it is required by glibc, but warned agenst by the
kernel developers.
Thanks,
Mike
