If we include GIFs in the GNE we will be forcing people to use them --
for changing a GIF, people will have to convert it to another format,
which will almost certainly change the filename, and references to it
would break.
IMO we can accept GIFs, change the images to PNG, change the
references to the images to reflect the name change (the gif2png
program is capable of doing both these things), and then include the
converted version in the repository.
