Jimmy,

You did not upset me.

I understand the reasons for GNE not wanting anything to do with commercially-developed software, and that's up to them. All I am doing is engineering the implementation, doing the nitty-gritty of the back end. The best way for me to do that is to use the tools I am good with, and that's ASP.

I am not suggesting for a millisecond that GNE should be serverd with IIS and ASP.

All I'm looking to do is demo a working prototype and establish the basic functionalities.

I installed (from hd format) Linux, got apache & mod_perl working, made a couple of "hello world" perl scripts, got samba to work, and am hosting the non-scripted parts of the company intranet on that linux box, because apache is faster and for the 39.95 I paid for the CD, the price can't be beat.

So I am not adverse to Java/Perl/Linux at all, and I would rather it be done that way now, but since I can't: I don't; but I realize a port will have to be done in the future. And I have even mentioned that in the past.

As far as it mattering or not, well, yes, it matters, but the coding itself is good experience and I'll use it on other things (like things I don't particularly enjoy but that help we pay the rent).

Hey, Chris, I didn't mean to upset you.

You're free to write code on whatever platform you like. It's really
none of my business.

I'm just saying -- and I'm sure this isn't controversial -- that GNE
should not use non-free software in any way. So unless ASP is easily
portable to a free system, your work can't be re-used by the project.

Maybe that doesn't matter to you, I don't know.
