Running emacs 21.0.90.2 on linux you still get an error if you apply it to
something:
Debugger entered--Lisp error: (invalid-function #<subr or>)
or()
apply(or nil)
eval((apply (quote or) nil))
eval-expression((apply (quote or) nil) nil)
* call-interactively(eval-expression)
Under XEmacs you get the slightly different 'Invalid function: #<special
form or>'.
