those helpfull matching parenthesis are too damn bright

Here I am on Mandrake 7.2 using all the defaults of the emacs version
in my header lines, and every time I type matching parenthesis,
bracket, etc. I get bright sea green almost obliterating what
character lies below and also much brighter than the cursor
itself... very disconcerting for the newbie, and leading to many
mistakes... why can't it be more like the transparent mellow yellow
sometimes associated with the mouse...

Sure I'll grow to love the new [wow, color terminal!  didn't have that
back in '92] way, but I didn't want this "valuable" first impression
of mine to go unreported.

(Don't go sending me a personal fix... I'm trying to fix things for the
masses :-))
