They behave in the same manner (the problem does not appear).
THe problem can be reproduced by putting the one line
(standard-display-european t)
into .emacs.el
When I use -q --no-site-file, accents are displayed
differently than with (standard-display-european t):
For ^o, the o is much smaller. This happens, when the
font is set to
Emacs*font: -*-lucidatypewriter-bold-r-normal-sans-14-*-75-75-*-*-iso8859-9
in the ressources. The default font does not make a problem.
Only with (standard-display-european t) I am able to regain the
desired fonts. With set-language-environment it did not work.
standard-display-european seems to become obsolete, but the new
replacements do not seem to work for me.
