Eli, no, this isn't clear for us Germans.  David has tried to
translate a German idiomatic phrase into English, and he apparently
failed.

The German phrase is

  Wenn Du außer Nostalgie kein zwingenderes Argument hast, ...

I think he means

  To leave the current behaviour as-is for historical reasons only is
  not a compelling argument, so I recommend to change the default.
