Sorry, it doesn't crash for me. When I repeat the above sequence,
everything's dandy: a new frame is created on the original display.
I tested this 3 times: in Emacs compiled with X toolkit and Xaw3d on SGI
Irix 6.5, in Emacs compiled with Motif on SGI Irix, and in Emacs compiled
with X toolkit and Xaw3d on Solaris 2.8. All three configurations worked
correctly.
Are you using some kind of specific X server or window manager? Maybe
that's the reason for the fact I cannot reproduce the problem?
