Go into a dired[-x] buffer, put the cursor on a file like
mgetty.html.tar.gz, and type
! t a r SPC t v f z return ! escape p escape p escape p return
Doesn't it feel plain undemocratic that one needs escape p escape p
escape p to plow past all the choices that dired thinks are better for
you instead of offering what you just typed in before as a much
earlier candidate in the selection list?
Hmm, maybe put it on the first M-n item. Naw... seems opposite to
logic, never mind.
also C-h k ! should mention M-p, M-n
Also why is it still suggesting unzip | ... when tar has the z key
these days, and how about a tar 't' default? ok, never mind
While we're here:
----------
l runs the command dired-do-redisplay
which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `dired-aux'.
Redisplay all marked (or next ARG) files.
----------
don't you think this should note "see g for redisplaying the whole
directory", and on the g page: "see l for just redisplaying a few
files, in case g takes too much time".
