Because it was thought to be too costly -- the same reason dired-aux
is separated and autoloaded.  There's no longer good reason to do
that, since they can be byte compiled dynamic.

I worked on a re-write to tidy up dired-x and provide all the features
by default, but it's been clobbered by other changes.  I'll probably
salvage what I can some time.
