Consider the case when you've done 1000 changes and you hold down the
undo key to get back to the original state. well, what do you know,
there will be a brief flashing in the minibuffer saying that you hit
bottom, and then you proceed to undo the undos, getting in deeper and
deeper trouble... i'd say when we hit bottom, demand that the user do
something different, oh anything, a little C-f will qualify, and only
then proceed to undo any undos.
