Gentlemen, I was tying merrily along when I noticed that after
receiving pleasure from

<escape> x y o w <return>

I was unable to duplicate the experience with

C-x <escape> <escape> <return>

this has never happed before to me, e.g.,

<escape> ! d a t e <return>

is fully reproducible with

C-x <escape> <escape> <return>

Try it yourself.  It says "(yow nil)" and then there's no tingle.
