I'm thinking of the case where a user is looking for words on a [M-x
man] man page with C-s, and the word he is looking for just happens to
be at the end of a line, hyphenated. Therefore he won't find it. It
seems the burden should still be on the various components of Emacs
used to ensure the user will still find the word without having to
learn anything more than the C-s he already knows.

Indeed there are some Man-hyphenated-* variables already, but I bet
not in connection with search.

Or maybe tell that -roff stuff to break at word breaks and avoid
hyphenating.
