Can you install a barrier so we don't back our car right into the
bicycle racks,

Yes, we are supposed to use C-a, but some times we use C-b and arrow keys.
The shell wouldn't let somebody put tire marks all over its prompt,
unless of course it happened to be in an emacs shell window.
