treatment of parenthesis syntax in scan_lists

Is there a good reason why `scan_lists' ignores the matching character
for Sopen and Sclose classes?  I.e. it happily skips from `[' to `)'
rather than requiring a matching `]'.

If not, I'll try to fix this sometime.
